Family
Our story began in the 1940s in the heart of Roses, on the Costa Brava, when our grandparents, Carmen and Josep, started welcoming visitors into their humble family home, located just opposite what would later become Hostal Rom. More than a business, hospitality was a way of life: opening the door, sharing what they had, and treating every guest with warmth and respect.
With the arrival of tourism in the 1960s and the growing popularity of Roses and the Costa Brava, the space where the family once kept pigs and chickens was transformed into Hostal Rom, a small family-run hotel.
In the 1980s, our mother, Maria Josep (daughter of Josep and Carmen), took over the leadership of the business, modernising Hostal Rom without losing its original spirit: close attention to guests, a welcoming atmosphere, and a personal way of doing things. Even today, she remains the driving force behind the family project and, proudly, still “the boss”.
From 2006 onwards, the third generation became actively involved in the business, each in their own area: Jordi leading the commercial side, Rudi at reception, Fausto heading the restaurant operations, and Arturo as head chef. Together, we helped grow the family project while staying true to its origins.
This evolution led to new projects: the opening of Hotel Carmen (2010), followed by ROM (2017), our gastronomic restaurant on the seafront promenade of Roses, and La Bodega (2019), a more informal tapas and seafood venue overlooking the bay from the central Plaça Catalunya in Roses.
Today, we remain a fully family-run business in Roses, with our mother still at the helm and the fourth generation already present, growing up surrounded by the same values that gave rise to it all more than 75 years ago.
